ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a teenager was seriously injured in a three-vehicle wreck in Buchanan County.
The Patrol says 17-year-old Breckan Basler, of Savannah, was driving a 2002 Jeep Cherokee on 169 Highway, one mile north of St. Joseph, at 4:31 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities say Basler failed to change lanes safely, striking a 1997 Toyota Avalon, driven by 27-year-old Patience Chitwood, of St. Joseph.
The Jeep traveled off the road, striking a utility pole, while the Toyota crossed the center lane, striking a 2009 Toyota Venza, driven by 30-year-old Elizabeth Thomas of St. Joseph.
Basler suffered serious injuries while Thomas suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. Everyone in the accident was reportedly wearing their seatbelt.
